Dengbêj is a traditional form of Kurdish folk singing that transmits epic stories and cultural heritage without instrumental accompaniment. The singers play a crucial role in preserving Kurdish history and identity. Their songs are often emotional and focus on love, war and the daily lives of Kurds. The term is made up of the Kurdish words “deng” (voice) and “bêj” (to say, to speak). Four Dengbêj singers from the autonomous cultural structure Kevana Zêrin will perform and shed light on the history of Dengbêj from the perspective of women.
